Greetings from the road!
We've just finished a couple days in the Bay Area and now I write to you from the beautiful central coast of California. We're staying in our favorite little hotel right on the Morro Bay beach called the "Sea Air Inn"and loving the cozy room and comfy beds. Almost everyone is SICK already so we need to get them a good place to rest and sleep off those bad germs!
To catch some of you up, we were not able to take our 1977 school bus on tour because it did not pass smog :( So Musical Charis took our new GREEN Ford Ecoline (ok, it's not NEW, but it's new for us) and we made it through our first obstacle today...
Driving along the scenic highway 1, we heard a huge *Crunch*Bang*Thud* and immediately pulled over to inspect this strange noise. Turns out, the tread stripped completely off one of our rear tires and instead of throwing on the spare and driving to a tire place to replace it, we had to drive on a treadless tire for 5 miles to borrow a jack from an auto repair place because ours was too short...cinder block anyone?
So we finally threw on the spare and went on our merry way to San Luis Obispo to play at the lovely "Sally Loo's" cafe with a couple acoustic SLO artists. Tekla is sick with an earache and was not able to sing, but the boys carried on and played a great unplugged set. "Ain't Gonna Be Easy" was my favorite for the evening.
We got up there and had a great time with the help of a couple locals on tambourines and they shared some SLO dance moves with us too. They sure know how to get down to "Jezebel" Even though our volunteer dancer accidentally smacked her face on the headstock of Isabel's bass, she still had a great time and even bought a couple of our cd's ;)
After the show, Blvd Park went buskin' in downtown SLO and raked in a good chunk of cash while Musical Charis went back to Morro Bay to sing with the lazy sea lions out in the bay. All you have to do is lean over the deck and make a sound like you're being punched in the stomach and the seals go crazy and start calling back to you!
(I can even hear them right now from the hotel room)
Until later,
Jess
